DBM: DepEd budget hiked in 2024 to fund VP Sara's MATATAG program

Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman on Monday said deskgame online casino the budget of the Department of Education for fiscal year 2024 was increased to fund the  launched by Vice President Sara Duterte. CQ9  

Pangandaman made the statement after the Vice President said that she quit as DepEd chief because of how the budget was handled.

“Ang masasabi ko lang po, 'yung P700 billion, it was quite a huge increase po from the previous level niya noong 2023 because it was then kung kailan po ginawa and nilaunch ng ating Bise Presidente 'yung MATATAG Program kaya binigyan po natin 'yan ng pondo noong 2024,” she added. 

(What I can say is that the P700 billion was a huge increase from the previous level in 2023 because it was when the MATATAG Program was launched that’s why we allocated funds for it.) 

The DepEd Office of the Secretary received P715.3 billion under the 2024 General Appropriations Act (GAA).

Duterte earlier said there were  she resigned as Education secretary.

"Mahaba talaga 'yung listahan ng mga rason at iba-iba pa siya sa kategorya merong personal sa aming dalawa lang, merong DepEd, merong budget at merong sa bayan din," Duterte said in an interview with Marisol Abdurahman which aired on "24 Oras” on August 8.

Further, Pangandaman said the DBM respects the wisdom of Congress when it comes to adjustments being made in the national budget. 

“Of course, pag GAA, mayroon po tayong budget process, we always respect po 'yung wisdom ng ating Kongreso kung mayroon silang adjustments na gagawin sa budget,” she said.
